Fundraiser to benefit the Triangle Wildlife Rehabilitation Center

Good morning all!  I am happy to say I have taken on a new role as the chairwoman of the Fundraising, Marketing & PR committee for Triangle Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.  I had mentioned TWRC in a previous post replying to someone seeking assistance for an injured bird- it is a fabulous 501c3 nonprofit that assists injured wildlife from across NC- from baby birds fallen from their nest, orphaned baby animals, birds with broken wings or legs, turtles hit in the road (turtles are already out this year- I saved one but it was too late for another I’d found hit- please brake for turtles, don’t break turtles!) as well as triage to other species.  Treating over 2,100 animals last year, Triangle Wildlife Rehabilitation Center provides essential services to assist all native NC wildlife as well as a providing a haven for more than 400 species of migratory songbirds.  We heal, rehabilitate, and return animals to their natural habitat.  Unfortunately TWRC lost their facility last year (though there are a few licensed rehabilitators taking the animals home with them, their ability to take cases is limited), and we are working to fundraise enough to reopen as well as network with any individuals or companies that may be able to assist in the endeavor of reopening (at a new location, to be determined) or maintaining the facility once it is built and open again.

Thank you to my friends Grimsley & Taylor Hobbs (and project manager Jake) from Hobbs Architects of Pittsboro for their generous offer to lend their assistance in helping to design this much needed facility.  We appreciate
their ongoing support to local charities & dedication to making Chatham County a more beautiful place!   Hobbs Architects has done wonderful work in our community on many government, educational & business facilities such as the lovely Oak Leaf Restaurant in Chatham Mills & restoring the Chatham County Courthouse to its original glory, as well as offering services to homeowners.   Thank you!

To make this dream of rebuilding Triangle Wildlife Rehabilitation Center a reality, we need funding, services, and grounds on which to build. For our facility, we seek 2-10 acres of land to feature: a building with hospital & rehabilitation areas, Operating Room, on site x-ray, administrative services and a public viewing area (designed so the community can see the fabulous work we do without upsetting the delicate patients), three 50 ft outdoor raptor cages, one 100 foot flight cage, four 8×8 rehab cages, a 28 foot aviary & an interpretive nature path.  TWRC can accept land with or without existing buildings, though it is prefered it be donated (in exchange for tax receipt, of course), any discounted options are also considered.  Due to the need for easy access to NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine as they assist with medical care, the “Apex-side of Pittsboro” is preferable, but all options will be considered and are greatly appreciated!

TWRC needs individuals & companies to donate- funds or “in kind goods,” corporate sponsors (event sponsorships start at just  $25, but we welcome donations of ANY size- every penny helps save lives!) , locations at which to hold fundraising events, or retailers interested in having a jar for cash donations or a collection bin with a where your customers can buy supplies from you to donate to us. Also if anyone knows of festivals offering cheap or free booth spaces to nonprofits please let me know! We will try to help promote any of corporate partners as much as possible- we know it’s important for our community to support the wonderful network of  local businesses who generously support our local charities & community at large!

I am currently seeking any local restaurant/bars interested in hosting a day of food, fun & fundraising as well as any local bands interested in performing at such events once we find venues!  The Wildlife Music Tour to benefit Triangle Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will feature events throughout the summer & fall at locations throughout the triangle-hopefully 10 dates, if possible.  We are working to set up events in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough & more-  I hope at least one or two of these can be in Pittsboro or Chatham County.  This is a fabulous way to bring music lovers & wildlife/nature enthusiasts to might  not otherwise come to Pittsboro  so they may see the wonderful hospitality, eclectic shops, creative people and natural beauty our community has to offer while supporting a very worthy cause.
