About the Chatham Chatlist sponsorship ad for Marcus Globuschutz

I have noticed the signs for Marcus Globuschultz around town and this morning I see that he sponsored today’s chat list.  I also noticed that he is apparently running as a “conservative” from the Chatlist post by the Chatham County R party stating that he was going to be answering questions at the Ag center.  However, the comments, which I assume are his words, or at least those of his campaign are cause me some concern.

Let’s start with:
State agent with the NC DPS, which is a little vague. Which division is it?  He says law enforcement, so I assume it’s either Highway Patrol, SBI, ALE, or Capitol Police?  I am going to make an assumption that he’s with the ALE (Alcohol Law Enforcement) because he appears to have a fixation on drug crime.  More on that in a second. Anyway, if he is a state agent, is he even part of the Chatham community?  I can’t say that I have heard his name before, but that doesn’t mean much.

Second, he says that the massive number of vacancies will be filled and deputies will be “put on the streets”.  I, for one, wasn’t aware that there is a massive shortage of deputies. Granted, the response time out in the western areas, can be a little slow but we still see plenty of sheriff patrols out that way.  I don’t see any need to put more “on the streets”.  I suspect that what he is really saying is that they’ll literally be on the streets, meaning cracking down on all those criminals who commit minor traffic infractions.  In other words policing for revenue.

Third, he says, “An aggressive approach to drug law enforcement will provide a safer environment for our children and save countless lives”,  Ah I see now, it’s for the children.  It’s always for the children.  This is followed by “A multi-agency drug taskforce will be created to tackle the drug epidemic head on.” Well now, this is interesting.  You see, if you do your homework (e.g. Crimegrade.org),  you will discover that Chatham County is in the top 10% of SAFEST counties in terms of drug crime and gets an A- rating.  Overall, the crime rate in Chatham is much lower than the US in general, especially when it comes to violent crime and is safer than our neighboring counties (Lee C+, Orange B-, Randolph B-, Harnett B-, and Montgomery B-). I hardly say this is an epidemic that requires drastic enforcement. Rather, what I suspect is that he means he is going to maximize use of what is called “Civil Asset Forfeiture”, which is really theft under the color of law where they claim your assets, typically money, are assumed to be associated with drug crime and therefore they seize them without a warrant or any sort of due process.  Attempting to recover your funds through the court system is onerous and expensive so most victims just take the losses.

He then mentions the animal resource center, which had it not been a topic of discussion recently, I doubt that most people would even be aware of it as a potential issue. The issue, however, is apparently one of funding which falls to the county commissioners who love to demand we the peons pay tithe and tribute to fund their multi million boondoggles.  As they say, it’s nice work if you can get it.  Which brings us to the final point, where he says the unacceptable, careless spending of tax payer money will STOP!  Exactly how is he going to achieve this?  Is he going to reduce the office’s budget? Wait, he was just saying he’s going to put all thee deputies on the street to tackle the drug crime (non) epidemic.  The money has got to come from somewhere.  What was it I was saying about policing for revenue and asset theft?

Now, generally speaking, I do not vote for democrats and I don’t have to look much farther than things like county wide zoning being crammed down our throats, the ongoing debacle called Chatham Park and all the wink-wink nudge nudge deals, and now the taking, aka theft, of people’s homes to support this EV plant (I still wonder how much demand there is going to be for a Vietnamese electric car brand I’ve never heard of before), to believe that the we need to cleanse the county of the local politburo, but I will say this of Sheriff Roberson: he engages the community, his deputies do not harass the people (and I have lived in places where the cops do), his staff is consistently friendly, professional, and polite, and when it comes to things like concealed carry permit renewals, which can be a nightmare in some counties, he and his office handle them swiftly and efficiently.

Folks, be wary of change for the sake of change, because you could wind up with someone like Gerald Baker of Wake county and we certainly don’t want that to happen.  I mean we could hear the cheers from our house when he lost the primary recently. The county R party may also want to take a closer look at what candidates that claim affiliation really stand for and decide if they truly share their values.
