Friends of the Memorial: Our goals are to preserve the American Veteran memorials of Chatham County and to defend the history and honor they represent.

We the citizens of Chatham County condemn the total disregard in which our elected commissioners refuse to acknowledge the state and federal laws protecting American Veteran Memorials.

Four commissioners have chosen their personal agenda and ignored the majority of the county. The four Commissioners have disrespected their oath of office by continuing to support lawless organized groups.  The agitators are the ones attempting to intimidate and scream profanities at women and others who try to remain peaceful.  One woman was assaulted with a sign and a man was thrown to the ground. These so-called tolerant groups have exhibited the most disturbing, intimidating behavior we have ever observed.  Name calling, shouting, lack of respect for the police officers, intimidation of news media, are a few things witnessed and supported by videos. This is all done as the result of the four commissioners and supporters of “Chatham for All” group.

Chatham Citizens experienced first-hand, the vile, vulgar and most obscene hatred filled words that you cannot imagine until you witness it. There was no civil discourse, just thug tactics that are not welcome. There are many businesses that are being impacted by the four Commissioners vote and the resulting decision to remove the monument.  We are concerned the image of Chatham County may never be the same.  We have seen hate in places we never knew existed until the four Commissioners chose this path to remove the American veteran memorials honoring all who fought for their homeland.   Your decision does not make us stronger. Respecting different points of view is the key.
