I am sure we all have had this problem. We glance into our rear view mirror and notice that the grill of the vehicle  behind  you is plastered across your rear window..

I have heard people say to put on your breaks to get them to back off. However this could lead to your vehicle  being slammed into and either shoved off the side of the road into whatever might be there or left of center into what ever might be there too.
You must consider that the tailgater does not know how to drive in the first place,if they did they would not be tailgating. The tailgater has  no conception of the 2 to 3 second rule for safe driving.

I was witness  to a tailgater hitting  the   vehicle it was tailgating. Hitting it  hard enough to send a tire flying into the air.

The vehicle it hit was behind me. The vehicle  behind me was not, repeat, not tail gating me.
We went around a slight curve and lo ,a deer standing in road. I  braked, deer went into  woods and lo as soon as he did another deer was jumping out into the road right behind the first  deer.

This was by the country club on sler city Glendon rd. I had to brake again for the second d deer. As I did heard  brakes screaming behind me  and looked  in my rear view mirror to see the tailgater hit the car behind me and a tire fly into the air. Pulled over and called 911.

With the deer so active around here and the weather not the best,it’s best to avoid an accident by putting your fashes on and slow g down dlowly to let the tailgater get around you.

A few weeks ago I was on the road a little after 6 am. No one else on the country road when I saw head lights  come up fast behind me then grill was in my back window  then red flashes were put on, thinking cop, pulled over as best I could but instead of pulling behind me this big pickup pulls around me. Huh?!

Then seconds later another  vehicle is coming up behind me , however this one  had flashes on, pulled over as close as I could to side. Turned out that both vehicles  pulled into a fire station that was up a head. Now I question why the first vehicle  found it necessary to put its grill in my back window with no flashers abd the second had flashers on, no tail gating and passed easily. This was a 2 lane road with no traffic and on a straight away.

Interesting differences between these two drivers who were apparently on the same mission.
However this is what you get when driving these days. You can not control the other driver but you can make it safer for you. Please do not brake for a tailgater. Do be careful and keep watch on what is going on behind you as well as in front and on the sidrs. It may mean your life.
Have a happy new year
