Ms. Penley’s last post in chatlist 5027 uses some form of the word invest 6 times. Great word. The problem is investing in in liberal policies are like investing in penny stocks with tax payer money. So let’s say the County said yes to pay for the Taj Mahal of crosswalks for Pittsboro. Does it stop there? Why shouldn’t Goldston and Siler City get their fancy crosswalks too? Keep in mind that this decision was also made at a time when Raleigh was signaling local funding was likely going to be smaller. The commissioners did what they are supposed to do. They prioritized, and Pittsboro’s lighted runway was not a priority.

The things Ms. Penely wish for are nice and it’s good we can debate their merit without the name calling.

Bookmobile. Nice but costs you money. Few use it.

The Magic empty Bus that runs to Chapel Hill. Nice but costs you money. This bus truly is magical because after the conservative cut it from the budget, it magically still runs costing county tax payers $0.

The Obesity director position. Nice but cost you money.

Parks. Nice but cost you money. Ask yourself this. As often as you go to the park, when was the last time you went and it was so crowded you said to yourself, “Wow we really need to build more parks. I can’t even fit into this park it is so crowded.†I like Rock Ridge Park; I’ve taken the kids there a few times in recent months. It’s nice to have a park all to myself as I’ve never been there at a time when other families are there.

Voters get the government they ask for. Go with the democrats and you can bank on one thing. Your property taxes will go up. Will you still be able to afford that weekend vacation in the mountains or a yearly trip to the beach after the democrats raise your taxes every year for the next four years? “Sorry kids, we can’t go to Carolina Beach this year.” See Ms. Penley is telling you the truth, they will invest in all kinds of non-core government functions, but her post does not tell you how they’ll pay for it. They won’t pay for it, you will.
