Section D in the News and Observer, December 29, has a wonderful article about the relationship between use of the land, caring for the land, and human responsibility for abuse of the land.  Duke Theologian Ellen Davis says care of the earth is central to our relationship with God.  Her book “Scripture, Culture and Agriculture: And Agrarian Reading of the Bible” is groundbreaking.  She states: “The notion that the God who created heaven and earth does not care that we do damage to the heavens and the earth is completely incoherent.  We are answerable to God for how we use the physical order to meet our physical needs.”

So, when we think of “development” does it fit with wise and caring use of the earth?   We are responsible.
