Subject: Taylor Kish post re Chatham Park and hoaxes
Taylor Kish reminded us of many important considerations as we evaluate the proposals for Chatham Park. Also mentioned were the following:
“LEEDS certification is a scam and a hoax.
Geoengineering by spraying clouds is a hoax.
The “green economy” is a hoax.
The Koch brothers running the U.S. government is a hoax.
The film “Gasland” spreads hoaxes to promote an agenda..
Man-made global warming is a hoax.
Polar bears dying due to lack of polar ice is a hoax.
There is no Nigerian prince who needs you to cash a check.
Anti-fracking hysteria is based on hoaxes.”
Gasland I have not seen and fracking to release gas and oil is both a legitimate and amazing modern technology for producing gas and oil and a technique that poses risks to both underground and surface water and air. Simply, both things are true.
Ice is melting at both poles in dimensions that we can easily see from sattelite photographs. We may soon be able to have the northwest passage sought unsuccessfully by several 18th and 19th and even 20th century seamen.
The Koch brothers are shrewd and successful money makers – I have had to buy from their catalogue at high prices to meet Federal inspection requirements for my meat packing plant – they had the insight to hire attorneys to write laws and present them to busy legislators and succeed in getting many passed. A bit worrisome, but not “running the US Govt.” but resulting in similar legislation in several states.
I have no idea of your reference to “Geoengineering by spraying clouds” but we can seed clouds with dry ice (frozen CO2) and cause enough cooling to make it rain.
I have enjoyed the “green economy” all my life here. Passive solar panels heat my pool and extend my swimming season from April to November and I keep pushing toward getting through the winter. Sliding glass doors on the West and North porch and a greenhouse on the East and garage on the south have boxed in my old farm house and enable me to heat and cool much less expensively. I can grow bananas and bouganvillia year round, and many commercial greenhouses earn a living for theiri owners. That is “the green economy”.
Photovoltaic cells on my office roof generate 3 KW when it is sunny, but I surely don’t want to do without the grid yet!
We raised and profitably marketed beef with no antibiotics and no hormones and total vertical integration from breeding to fork without the expense of Certified Organic. So the Certification MAY be an unnecessary expense depending on one’s marketing plans, but the IDEA of building to take advantage of energy efficient heating and cooling just makes sense to any tightwad. Both things are true, and sometimes it is difficult to hold two seemingly opposed ideas at the same time and explore their commonality.
I have not gotten any checks from Nigeria, but I did have someone falsely use the name of an aquaintance claiming to be stranded in Spain and needing money for a ticket home! Glad I did not send any! THAT’s a hoax!
