Danny, my long haired cat constantly has problems with tangles, matting, etc.  He hates to be brushed, clipped or messed with- I frequently have to hold him down to make his long orange hair manageable.  And, I must do it where I can catch him. He is an expert at figuring out what is about to happen.

A couple of years ago, I caught him outside in an open area and got a few clips before he managed to escape. I left the clippings  on the ground. The next morning, I glanced out the window and saw a bird pecking there and eventually flying off with a mouth full of Danny’s orange hair.  That fall, I found a bird nest lined with soft orange cat hair. That gave me an idea- I help Danny, Danny’s hair helps the birds.

So, now early in the spring, I save the combings, clippings of his hair.   I place them in forks of a hedge bush.  Frequently from my window,  I can see birds come, peck and pull at the hair and fly off with a mouth full of fluffy nest lining- Most recently it has been Titmice doing all the transporting. Makes me feel good inside.
