Read the fine print on your contracts with your propane companies

Read the fine print on your contracts with your propane companies and ask many questions when you call. We just had a shock when we called LP Cooper gas to ask for a specific number of gallons to be delivered to our home.

I had called last Thursday to ask the price and was quoted $3.28. We have a 500 gallon tank, much bigger than we need. I called on Friday and asked that 200 gallons be delivered. Yesterday they came and left the bill – $3.52/gallon.

I called this morning and was told that because we did not fill the tank there was a surcharge. She also told me
that there are times of the year when this surcharge applies (Sept – April, I believe). So, I will know better next time to ask many questions when I try to figure out what I need to purchase.   (I had called another company last Thursday and was quoted $2.86/gallon for first time customers – you would think that companies would want to encourage existing customers instead of penalizing them for trying to be thrifty and making sure they can pay their bills!).
