Subject: Reuben C. “Bill” Warfford
I would like to take a quick moment to update the community on the status of Reuben C. “Bill” Warfford.
On Saturday April 17th, Bill will be moving to a Skilled Nursing Facility that is equipped to better handle his health care needs.
A bit of history on his health: Bill was originally diagnosed and treated for a rare brain cancer in the fall of 1997. He was later diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease around 2002 and is now living with a disorder knows as MSA or Multiple System Atrophy, which is a Parkinnson’s Plus disease, meaning it takes the form of Parkinson’s but has many additional symptoms. This disease has taken away his mobility, speech, and most of his muscle coordination. It has not taken his heart or his mind. He still enjoys his family and his friends. I think what his misses most is his involvement with the community.
Bill has been a fixture in Chatham County his entire life. Raised in Siler City, he attended Jordan Matthews High School and continued on to higher education at both NC State University and the University of North Carolina. He came back to Chatham when First Citizens Bank opened its doors in Pittsboro in 1969. He retired from the same
position over 30 years later. He has served the community as a Pittsboro Town Council Member and even the Mayor. He has also served in the Pittsboro Kiwanis club for over 40 years. These are only a few examples of his involvement.
Bill loves this community and we still get out and ride around Pittsboro quite regularly.
I just wanted to provide an update for all of those who ask me how he is doing or for those who want to see him before he leaves. Feel free to stop by or send a card, Im sure he would love to hear from you.
Thanks for your time.
