Folks,
I just saw Jane Dunlap’s ad in the Chatlist and had to comment:
I’ve been a computer user since 1985, which means that I think I know more than I do, and I periodically get myself into scrapes that I can’t find a way out of. I recently did just that…again…and no one could help me fix what I broke. I tried the IT help desks (two) at UNC, where I work, and two other people I know who are computer gurus. One of them actually builds computer systems. The other is a network administrator. No one could help me, and it looked like I was going to have to completely wipe my computer and re-install the operating system, then all my programs, etc., etc., etc.
Not a pleasant thought.
As a last resort, I remembered Jane’s ad from an earlier Chatlist, and I gave her a call. She did it! And just over the phone, too, with me “driving” and her giving me instructions on what to do. It took us about two hours to find the fix…but it was find-able and fix-able. And it was well worth it! I’m a happy camper.
If you’re a danger to yourself when you get in front of a keyboard, as I am from time to time, keep Jane’s number handy.
