Average traveler will gravitate towards the familiar

Hold the phone, indeed. Before anyone starts misconstruing what I posted yesterday, let’s go back and re-read my letter.

I LOVE S&Ts. They are my favorite place to go for a Malt of other ice cream treat, and their chicken salad is most excellent.

My point, which is in danger of being overlooked here, is that while You, I, and the rest of the chatlist may love S&T, the average traveler doesn’t know what S&T is, where they are, who they are, or what they sell. There are no signs on 64 saying “This way for tasty Ice Cream and Sammiches!”. People passing through would have no idea, and are 99% more likely to stop at a McDonalds, or maybe the Brewery once they get off the ramp there and see it.

The point stands though… the average traveller/tourist passing by will gravitate to the familiar before the strange and unusual… thus, McDonalds on the bypass has the potential to bring a good amount of money into the county. As would other chain style stores. I personally would LOVE to see a Jack in the Box up there… maybe even a Whitecastle (just because I am a huge fan of little cheeseburgers)…

But I live here, and I still visit and love the local places and their
excellent menus and food.

“They could care less about small, local places like S&T’s Soda Shoppe,”

In the words of that lovable green giant, Shrek, “Hold the phone”!

S&T’s is a gem. Even though I will occasionally patronize the new McD’s, I will make way more trips to S&T’s.
