My wife visited a dermatologist recently and he had the following giveaway in his office:

“TICK PREVENTION

Permethrin 0.05% Spray: Brand names include: Duranon, Permethrin Tick Repellent, Cutter Outdoorsman Gear Guard, and Repel Permanone.
Man-made contact insecticide. Not a repellent.

Kills mosquitoes, ticks, flies, chiggers, fleas, lice

Where to buy: Can be purchased at sporting goods department.

How to use: Spray on shoes/boots, clothing (lower pants). socks, and tent walls. Spray each side of fabric for 30-45 seconds. Allow the garment to dry for 2 to 4 hours before wearing it. Does not work on skin. Last approximately 2 weeks, even after several washings.”
