Chatham Winter Weather Survival Drive Program Update

Chatham Winter Weather Survival Drive Program Update

The Chatham Winter Weather Survival Drive Program (WWSD) is entering the fourth week of collecting winter outerwear, blankets and sleeping bags for our most vulnerable. We have received many new items, particularly for children. Many coats have already been delivered to Chatham County Schools and distributed to children through social workers; this will continue as a priority. As of yesterday we have collected 440 coats and total items 1360. Collection locations will be open for donations through November 30.

Reminder:

We collect clean, free of odors, gently used or new items for men, women, and particularly children. Our children’s sizes range from small toddlers to 3XL for older middle school- high school students.

We collect only Winter seasonal items for warmth/protection:

Coats/Insulated Jackets (think sub-freezing temps)

Hats for warmth

Gloves for warmth

Scarves for warmth (not fashion/ decorative accessories)

New wool or thermal socks

Sweaters

Sweatshirts/Hoodies

Flannel Shirts/Thermal Shirts

Ski attire

Blankets

Sleeping Bags

Items that are not clean, have odors and have damage will not be accepted.  Also, underwear and lightweight summer clothing will not be accepted. I have found the following quite helpful to the consideration of donated items-Would you give this item to your sister/brother?

Many thanks to the generosity of Chatham County residents!
