Really? Do we really need county regulation of ball field sponsorship banners?

Really? Do we really need county regulation of ball field sponsorship banners?

It would appear that Chatham County Planning Board member Shelley Colbert has an issue with the sports sponsorship banners located at Margaret Pollard Middle School.

At Tuesday’s Planning Board meeting during the Unified Development Ordinace presentation she appeared to be somewhat perturbed that these “commercial signs and banner type signs have been up for over a year” and face directly onto the residential area across the street.

Did it sound like she felt that these sponsorship signs that help fund sports at schools might need to be government regulated? Is this an actual “problem”?

Not sure when Ms. Colbert (Is she Stephen’s mom? Anyone know?) moved to Chatham County.

However, when Pollard Middle School was being built there were no homes across from the school. It was full of trees. Can someone fact check?

The road was a dead end road. Can someone fact check?

I did attend the Pollard Middle School dedication in January 2011. Ms. Margaret’s daughter spoke at the dedication (Don’t need a fact check on that) – https://youtu.be/XsOxcD67yWE

Briar Chapel chose to build those homes on that street directly across from the school. And folks chose to buy those homes directly across from Pollard Middle School. Were folks forced to buy those homes? Are those homes still occupied? Are they vacant?

Any thoughts on Shelley Colbert’s comments?

Askin’ for a friend.

If anything, what I saw yesterday raised a LOT of questions about a whole lot of things having to do with the proposed UDO. Will probably need to run over and attend a few more of these in the future.

BTW, how this all started –

Heard the Chatham County planning board was getting a presentation on the proposed Unified Development Ordinance for the county by the consultants the county hired. (Does anyone know how much these consultants are getting paid?)

Decided to run over, sit in and video record most of what was going on when I was there.

I’ll have some additional videos from the meeting posted sometime on Thursday.

If you’ve gotten this far…..

Several more questions –

What are the benefits of Chatham County having a UDO? What are the drawbacks of Chatham County having a UDO?

What makes for a great UDO? What makes for a shi**y UDO?

Who does a UDO benefit most? Who does a UDO hurt most?

BTW, I heard from two folks that the initial iteration of the UDO proposed having NO lights in parking lots.

Don’t know if this is true or not (need a fact check), but as a husband who cares about his wife I won’t want my wife parking in a lot with no lights.

If someone has proof that this was the case drop me a note. (Or will I need to fill out a formal request for public information form to get this info from the county?)
