Admired the woods in front of Northwood, but change is a-coming

I have always admired the woods in front of Northwood, but change is a-coming.

For years I have heard discussions of what could be in front of Northwood and wondered why the County did not work with Chatham Park and Mosaic to build public infrastructure or the new County HQ for the Chatham County School system on that site.

For some reason the new school HQ is being built near the old County dump, the County jail and recycling center.

I recently saw this answer from District 4 Commissioner candidate, Rev. Albert Reddick, that mentions this 30 acres as well:

Q9: How will you address the issues the County, School System and Sheriff’s Department have staying regionally competitive with employee compensation and retention?

Simply put we need a benchmark analysis done on where we need to be with our compensation packages and we need to get serious about using our acumen and assets to address the issue of workforce housing in Chatham County.

For example, Chatham County Schools “CSS” owns approximately 30 acres of land in front of Northwood High School and near a lot of brand new development. Why not do a public/private partnership and get 500 workforce housing units built on that site? I will be a voice for creative and pragmatic solutions.
