Pittsboro Town Board majority voted to give almost 2 million dollars in public funds to a private developer?

Dear Chatlist and Pittsboro voters,

Ugh.  No one likes negative campaigning.  And that “Fiocco Fiasco” flyer circulating over the weekend was certainly negative.  Isn’t it a shame that anyone in our community feels so pressed by what’s happening to be moved to such negativism?  And that flyer was redolent with opinions.

Yet any frequent observer of Pittsboro Town Board meetings might testify that several of those allegations are indeed factual.

Perhaps the most important one?

Yes, the Town Board majority voted to give almost 2 million dollars in public funds to a private developer.  And it was Michael Fiocco who made the motion.  (Look for the “Bonus Allocation” vote in the minutes of 10th August 2020: https://tinyurl.com/chirpy34 )

How could this be true?   To most people it’s unbelievable.  Yet, it happened.  The Durham Herald Sun reported on the preliminaries, 1st of December 2018:heraldsun.com/news/local/article222208160.html

Nothing in either of the two Chatham newspapers.

Here is the recording of when the matter was first discussed on 26th of November 2018.

The most shocking thing is the attitude that somehow the Chatham Park corporation was *entitled* to these funds.  In a Town whose infrastructure is actually (and literally) falling apart?  Rotting sewer pipes, leaky water pipes, polluted drinking water, streets and highways full of potholes, not enough crosswalks…  We needn’t go on.

By the end of the night Tuesday the voters will have their say.

Let us all hope they do so based on facts.
