Notice most these County suggestions help constrain tax increases too! See Chatlist #6978 for reference.
o Seeing a high carbon County SUV go by me (I was on foot), transforming the fleet of County vehicles from posh gas guzzling carbon spewers to the smallest/most efficient low carbon fleet possible. This does not necessitate NEW purchases; like most County residents, the County can hit the used vehicle market, and score nicely given it staffs mechanics – for example refurbishing old Toyota Prius and the like.
o Taking public transportation to events like conferences, and if possible room sharing when attending (for 2 employees sharing a room, that’s one HVAC unit running at the hotel, not two, thereby reducing carbon footprint).
o Assessing ALL County projects for carbon footprint. For example constructing new County buildings is likely VERY high carbon footprint versus continuing to utilize what we’ve got. Ditto on roads and other County projects.
To reiterate the Sunday invite: Let’s brainstorm. I kick off my “candidacy” for the County Climate Change Advisory Committee with FREE DRAFT BEER (on me) SUNDAY May 2, 6PM, at Michoacan mexican grill pittsboro. OUTDOORS.
