To Reply to some of Raymond Gastwaite’s comments:

It is now pretty clear what the protesters want: equal treatment under the law for African Americans. And they agree with Mr. Gastwaite that police forces are over-armed and there are too many police and quasi-police organizations.

One major problem Democrats have had in seeking justice, even in places they control politically, is the power of police unions, especially in major cities. I can only wish that civil service unions had the political clout that police unions do. It is interesting that as “right to work” states were abolishing most public service unions they failed to include police unions.

It may be true but is disingenuous to say that all interactions between the police and civilians that could lead to involvement in the criminal legal process are captured on body cameras. Many potential such situations are not prosecuted is because, by chance or on purpose, cameras are not working.

As for the 2018 Supreme Court decision cited, I can only point out the overtly political composition of the current court.
