for reminding me so I could call Nancy to buy 2 new hummingbird feeders while she is still in town. Mine were lost in the fire. 1 cup of sugar to 4 cups of water sounds right. I would put sugar in 2 quart mixing bowl and add hot water and stir until dissolved. Just kinda learned how much sugar. added a drop of food coloring so I could see content better. Hope that did not harm birds. They did not seem to mind. Someone worried about the color, but I figured if I could eat it, the hummers likely could too, but not necessarily; they have a very special metabolism. But it was easy to make a red mess! Nancy just came in with feeders; improved volume and easier to clean. ?Ant moat in top?? we will see. We have no food coloring.
And thanks for the Desiderata. My copy was at my desk at the office for decades. Brought home in time to be burned. Old memory is unreliable, but it seems mine was attributed to a churchyard from about 1840 and author unknown??
