Subject: Towers along Haw River
The towers along the Haw River between the mill and Pokeberry Creek were originally used to measure the depth of the river. I live in Bynum and that’s what I’ve been told. There used to be a “car” attached to the line. I assume a person rode the car to the middle of the river and dropped a line to what is the deepest spot in the river.
I was walking the trail at twilight. As I passed under the metal line, the wind moved the car enough to make it sort of sigh. It was really creepy. I moved my sissy self quickly along.
