Subject: Jan 16: CCP Meeting: Unclog Our Rivers!
Please join us for the next Chatham Conservation Partnership meeting on Thursday, January 16, 2020, from 9 a.m. til noon at the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center in Pittsboro.
Registration is not required but an RSVP helps us with meeting preparation. If you plan on attending please RSVP online at https://www.chathamconservation.org .
The meeting is free and open to the general public. The theme of the meeting will be UNCLOG our RIVERS! Chatham County’s streams and rivers are facing old and emerging threats. Dams have long blocked passage for fishes swimming up and down stream; they’ve impacted aquatic and near-stream habitats, and they impact water quality for both humans and wildlife. Hydrilla, a non-native invasive species, was recently found in the Deep River. Hydrilla blocks our rivers, changes habitats, and leads to poorer water quality, and also spreads disease among wildlife. However, scientists working in Chatham County are leading the way on reducing these threats. At the January meeting we will learn about recent dam removal projects intended to restore habitat for our endangered Cape Fear Shiner. We’ll also learn about efforts to control hydrilla infestations.
Please join us on Jan 16. From 9:00 – 12:00 to hear about how Chatham is working to unclog our rivers. The meeting will take place at the Chatham County Agriculture and Conference Center, 1192 US-64 W BUS, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
