Subject: A backing story . . .

I am forever driving and seeing something that I want a closer look. Mostly on back roads and not a lot of traffic. I pass, think and then back up. It has become a way of life for me. Especially with plants and flowers growing by the wayside.

Today i was on a country road, little or no traffic. I passed a pretty bunch of wildflowers blooming right beside a newly made drive-way. I started backing up and I spied a car approaching in the distant rear. I pulled off the road and let that car pass.

Then i thought the smartest thing to do would be back into the gravel driveway, park, get out and look at the flowers. i did. i felt safe  parked in a newly made driveway. When i went to get back into my van, I noticed the right back side seemed to be awfully low. I walked back and saw to my horror that I had actually backed too far- My tire was  half way off the edge of the cement drainage pipe. Two more inches backing would have let the wheel go completely over in the ditch and the axle resting on the concrete drainage pipe.

You better bet I was extra careful getting back into that teeter-ing van. Careful of each and every movement starting that car. I learned my lesson . . .well at least until the next time.
