Subject: Survey: Should the statue in front of Chatham County courthouse stay or go
Pittsboro, NC – With the most recent discussion about the future of the confederate statue located at the front of the Chatham County courthouse in Pittsboro, the Chatham Journal has decided to run an online survey through the end of this month.

Please leave the historic statue standing in front of the CHATHAM Courthouse.
It represents the history of our county and how far we have come to resolve the racial divisions.
My family have lived in Chatham County since the mid 1700’s.
Please do not let the hatred of others tear down these statues
Sincerely
Sheree Fesmire Smith
The statue should remain standing. It’s a part of history. A part of Pittsboro. It was sad when the court house caught fire yet the statue was still standing. To see our town rally together to celebrate the rebuild was beautiful. Not one complaint about the statue then. So why now?
When you are coming into Pittsboro and see the statue and courthouse you know you are home. It’s a part of our home in Pittsboro and we love every historical part of it.
Best Regards
Cheryl
Please allow the statue to continue standing. A statue can’t offend anyone. We can’t change history. We can change our way of thinking and handling things we don’t like. We can rise above arguing or fighting over things of the past. Come to peaceful resolutions and learn to put our energy where it counts. Nothing can hurt or offend you unless you allow it. I hope the statue can remain a part of our home town of Pittsboro. If they decide different. Hopefully it can be done in a honorable peaceful and respectful way.
STAY!
