2 thoughts on preventing tick bites I have not heard before;
rubber dairy boots; usually come in black, which is not ideal, but are certainly made in white too; white may be more expensive, but if one uses white “FlexSeal” (spray can $13 at Ace Hdw.) black rubber is white rubber in a few minutes. Plain white spray paint, flat or appliance, may work just as well for $3, but I have not tried that myself and it may not stick as well.
for those who drive lawnmowers, tractors, et al in brushy trees where head/hair makes a hard to detect entrance point, especially for the ladies, any hat helps, but a snug bathing cap, white, sounds like a useful tool; even a shower cap or a hair net would give some deterrence and be a bit cooler. I have a wide brim white hat that would add sun protection and show ticks rather well; I used to wear it when bushogging, both in pasture and clearing path through woods. (blanking on the brand name)
Will share with Chatlist and hope you will comment about the above, as they are techniques I have only thought about and have no experience except with the boots I painted only yesterday!
I just remembered my Daddy, tromping around our few acres in Mandarin, Fla. in blue jeans and dairy boots doing chores before heading into his office in Jacksonville, Fla. for his “day job”! A very ‘buggy’ climate there, and our tick population has surely proliferated along with the diseases they spread in just the past decade! Be careful out there; these pathogens are sneaky and deadly.

and I do encourage all Chatlisters to chip in to TIC-NC, a few dollars, carry tick removal kits as the more quickly they are removed the better, and focus on keeping ticks off us as best ‘treatment’. Other Chatlisters surely will have gimmicks to share.
