Subject: Brian Bock’s Endorsement of Mike Cross

Larry Hicks quotes the endorsement by Brian Bock of Mike Cross but then argues it is actually not an endorsement.  That despite the fact that Bock — now chair of the Chatham Republican Party – says he valued the input of Mike Cross on the Board of Commissioners, that Cross wasn’t afraid to tell his fellow Democrats when he thought they were on the wrong side of an issue and, finally, that Bock was afraid he would get into some trouble for these comments.

Sure sounds like Bock thought he was making an endorsement and that it might get him into trouble with his fellow Republicans.

But maybe the real endorsement of Mike Cross by the Republicans is that they have not put up a Republican candidate to run against him.  They have gone to great lengths to find candidates to run against Karen Howard in the primary and in the November general election.  Of course, Bock has not endorsed Karen Howard but he has endorsed Mike Cross.  This is math that seems to add up.

Speaking of endorsements, many former commissioners have endorsed both Karen Howard and Mike Dasher, including George Lucier, Carl Thompson, Tom Vanderbeck, Jim Elza, Sally Kost and Gary Phillips.  On his website, Mike Cross apparently doesn’t brag about any endorsements of former Democratic commissioners.

We have now learned that the NC Sierra Club has also endorsed Howard and Dasher, saying of Mike Dasher that he more consistently than his opponent, supports the efforts to zone the County and create and employ the Comprehensive Land Use Plan.  Quote/unquote.

And, why did Mike Cross refuse to endorse the Democratic slate — Karen Howard, Jim Crawford and Diana Hales —- when they were running for the County Board in 2014?

Democratic voters have a clear choice in the primary.  They should vote for Karen Howard who is running in District 1 and Mike Dasher, who is running against Mike Cross in District 2.
