Subject: Zoning
Mark et al, I too moved here when there was very little ‘zoning’ and voluntarily moved the building site for our meat packing plant from what is now Bojangles in Siler City out next to the Stockyards so as not to distress the tenants of Siler Crossing. Turns out we would have been better off with the original CharLean Restaurant being there than Bojangles, but that is another story. Zoning may not be all bad for western Chatham, even though I voted not to zone west of Hwy 87 at the Ag advisory board. As we get more crowded, zoning will be a more important tool to protect our present property use from changes by newcomers. This current vote by our county commissioners may have been a bit ‘pushy’ but western Chatham will survive and prosper and our lives will not be terribly disrupted, IMO, or my guess. But zoning does represent another hassle in doing what we see needs to be done; getting bureaucrats to be facilitate rather than obstructive is our main challenge.
