Subject: Deer and coyotes
The deer are native to the area, and have been on the increase since before the Jordan Lake was even there. Chatham County was pretty rural in the 1960’s, but the increase in population has encouraged deer. The coyotes, on the other hand, came through the corridor cut by I-40, and have steadily worked their way eastward from Tennessee. They are now present in all 100 counties in the state. We can fuss about it, but the pickings are too good, here, to make them go away.
