Subject: Bank Accounts Getting Hacked in Pittsboro
About two weeks ago, my bank account was compromised and shut down immediately due to fraudulent charges that were thankfully caught before wiping out my bank account. Well since that time, I now know of at least 10 other people that I either work with, know personally or are known by others that also work and/or live in the Pittsboro area that have had their bank accounts compromised. Several of us have attempted to compare where we have shopped or eaten out to see if there is a consistency of where/how this could be happening. We have our suspicions but without absolute evidence, would not feel comfortable publicly naming those businesses where we feel this may be happening. We have determined though that this not a case of a security issue at one specific bank since most of us bank at different banks. It appears everyone in the area is a potential victim of these criminals.
As a fellow concerned citizen, I just wanted to bring this to light since it seems to be happening almost daily to someone in the Pittsboro area. We need to do whatever we can to help stop these low life criminals and show them that they will not get away with this. Please be sure to monitor your bank accounts closely, use your bank card as credit instead of debit and just be cognizant of your surroundings when using your bank or cred cards.
