What an excellent reply by Linda Boyd to this question. If anyone is looking for a home I would recommend this realtor.

There another situation to be aware of. Has anyone read the Chatham News in the last few weeks? Wish you all did. Duke energy has the plans to make Chatham County a waste ash dump. Tons of this toxic waste will be dumped into Chatham County. I wondered why the toxic ash ponds were not on the list to be cleaned up as they are some of the worse in the state. Lo………they are going to add more to the mess.

Hey people your water is in jeopardy as well as the air surrounding these toxic ash cesspools…..opps….ponds. Our ground water levels have fallen. For te first time since I have lived here my spring was dry in the springtime , when it was always wet.

Almost thirty years ago, when Rt. 64 was one lane in Siler Citty and if three cars were at a stop light it was a crowd, Chatham people were able to get a Nuclear waste dumped sited for Siler City stopped. Why because the people living there were not going to have toxic radioactive waste in their water, land or air. They did not listen to the words…..jobs, compacted, etc. They saw what would really happen.

Just a few years ago a small Chatham County town called Bennett defeated a large toxic waste dump. The land had already been brought by outside interests and all were set to jump in. The people in Bennett were not fooled by words like, jobs, playgrounds, parks. They saw what would really happen stood up and said no.

Where is the concern now? If Duke energy can do this, the fracking industry will follow with using Chatham County as a toxic fracking waste dump.

By the way, There are few birds now, when there used to be hundreds on this property. My persimmon trees are still loaded with fruit. The birds use to strip them off. This summer, no mud dubbers wasps. Two carpenter bees and no mice. There is a serious problem. Having lived for almost 70 years and roaming the woods, deserts of Arizona and swamps and beaches with my dogs/horses, in all those years I have never seen the decline of wildlife as I have seen in the last few years. Wildlife are the canaries of the mines.

Even when I had to live in apartments, there were all kinds birds all around even in winter on Long Island. There is something seriously wrong.
