Subject: Birds and Squirrels and Coyotes… oh my!!!
I live in northeast Chatham county in Fearrington Village. I have them all – squirrels, all kinds of birds mentioned yesterday in the Chatlist by day and owls, coyotes by night. The coyotes run through my back yard that is bordered by Bush Creek by night… howling as they run in what sounds like a pack of 5-6 or so. I wonder what they’re chasing. The owls are asking them… who, who, who? 😉
My deck rails are topped by a flat 5†board all around. This is my feeder and the birds and squirrels feast together. If they want water to drink or bathe, there is always Bush Creek. The rain washes my deck of old left over seeds, which is rare. This is a NO maintenance setup. Well, I’m retired, what do you expect?
What a joy it is to feed my birds every morning! As I open my back door and step out onto my deck, I lift up the same container of seed mixture and begin one of the several bird whistles I’ve learned. Immediately I will see birds of all shapes, colors and sizes flock by the tens into the several large trees close by. They are all singing their own songs and dear God I wish I knew what they were saying to each other and to me. As soon as I step back inside the real fun begins as my birds fly in and out all day long… some staying longer than other… some whistling back and forth with me! I thank God for all my fine, feathered friends!
Happy Thanksgiving, my fellow Chatham county citizens!
