Subject: 100 years of democratic rule???
“In 2011 Brian Bock, Pam Stewart, and Walter Petty started the process of changing 100 years of democrat rule in Chatham County…” 100 years??? Oh, come on, Mister Mud. Your memory can’t be that bad. Surely you remember the “democratic rule” of Bunkey Morgan (pretending to be a Democrat from a district he didn’t live in)? That wasn’t more than 100 years ago . And it certainly wasn’t very ethical or democratic, but that’s the way Republicans tend to get in office lately. Running on false pretenses. Backed by big spenders who want more influence on local and state policymakers.
Republicans always seem to think that all that voters care about is not raising taxes. Wake up! There are lots of other problems that the citizens of this county face! Running on a promise not to raise property taxes is not a solution! It is a promise to do nothing.
Fortunately there are a lot more people in this county who think finding solutions to real problems requires more than just not raising taxes. They understand that solutions need to benefit ALL of us. Even people who don’t pay property taxes. Because guess what? A lot of people here in Chatham have no property and very little income. If our commissioners ignore their problems, then we all pay the consequences.
And a mega site might have a lot of potential, but so do all our children. We should be investing in them and the education that they need in order to grow up and succeed in life. Good teachers do more to help them reach their potential than anything else. Bonuses do little to demonstrate a long-term commitment to our teachers, but increasing their salaries and benefits does. It shows just how much we care about the quality of education that all students deserve. Ask any parent. Is it worth it?
Why settle for not raising your taxes when there are people running for office who have the vision, the experience and the dedication to do so much more? I am impressed with the Democrats on the slate this year. Electing them is an investment that we can all make for the future!
