The annual Alzheimer’s Walk will be held Saturday, September 13th, 2014 at Galloway Ridge at Fearrington, Pittsboro North Carolina. Onsite registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the walk will kick-off at 9:00 a.m. Activities for the family will include a resource fair, food trucks and an I-pod drive for the Music & Memory program.
Walks held around the state offer a chance for caregivers and individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia to connect with resources in their community and find support with each other.
“Funds raised from events like these allow us to continue our programs and services to families in North Carolina while focusing attention on the needs of the more than 170,000 North Carolinians diagnosed with it,” says Alice Watkins, executive director. An estimated 5.2 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease at an annual cost of more than $200 billion in lost wages, insurance, production and other related costs as well as additional diseases attributed to caregivers.
