Subject: Education is a core commitment for Bock, Stewart, Petty
“The Republican majority on the Bd. of Commissioners does not appear to be a fan of public schools, and they have consistently squeezed the annual budget.” -Candidate Hales IW-4/30/2014
Candidate Hales has had trouble seeing reality looking through her partisan tinted glasses in the past.

The above quote is another example of not believing her lying eyes. She wants you to believe that the conservative candidates have done nothing but cut the school budget over the last 4 years. This could not be further from the truth. The board of education came to them with a funding request. It was rejected and INCREASED by $700k. Chatham spends more per student than 95 other NC counties. This board has a strong working relationship with the school board. In fact, the current board of commissioners was nominated unanimously by the BOE to receive a statewide award for continued support of k-12 schools.
“If elected, I would: First, increase teacher supplement pay to retain our teachers.” -Candidate Hales IW-4/30/2014
This is a good idea! BOCK-STEWART-PETTY already did it. It is refreshing that the liberal candidate is endorsing the conservative commissioner’s policies.
“Despite several tough economic years, Chatham County continued to boost its funding of schools. Increased funding for school operations increased more than 20% over the last 4 years. This helped offset education budget cuts at the state level and provided a 2% increase in supplements for teachers and teacher aids.”
