If you catch the carnivore in the process of attacking a domestic animal, that is what a shotgun and/or rifle are kept around the house for.
The maddest I ever saw Carol Dykers was when she encountered a pack of dogs attacking a group of young heifers down at Pretty Valley. The heifers had circled butt to butt up by a fence and were fighting off the pack. Carol did not have a rifle with her, but tried her damndest to run over the dogs and did break up the pack and save the calves. It took her 3 days for her blood pressure to return to near normal! I guarantee that had she had shotgun or rifle, that pack of wild dogs would be much smaller.
If the carnivores are successful and leave a carcass, they might as well eat what they will and the rest is what buzzards are for and why they are a protected species.
