Subject: Weird calls
I’m wondering if anyone else is suddenly getting a plethora of crank calls. I’m supposedly on that do not call list.
For over a month, every single day I get one, and sometimes more, calls with a recorded “We are calling about an important business matter for …. Betty ….. If you are not …. Betty Taylor…. press one.” I’m not …. Betty ….. and I don’t press one. I hang up.
Another I got today is really worrisome. A person with a strong accent said they were calling from the IRS and asked for my son by his first name. He did live here with me briefly 11 years ago. I eventually told him the IRS communicated by letter and I hung up on him. He immediately called back asking why I hung up and that a letter had been sent but had not been picked up, and I needed to call his superior officer, Damon Marshall at 202-241-4007. I said I would “look into it”.
The IRS has 800 numbers, and I doubt they would expect someone to call a regular number with 202. (Isn’t that NYC? Or maybe it is Washington.)
Anyway, does that sound at all legit? And any suggestions on how to stop that ridiculous robocall for …. Betty …. ?
Thanks
Kira (not Betty)
