Subject: Coming and goings at Thursday Pittsboro Farmer’s Market
I told you the asparagus was coming- it came and is now gone. Ditto strawberries. Bright tender crooked necked yellow squash are a must! Fresh greens of all manner, including white turnips, broccoli, cabbage. Carrots and radish. Those long, long greenhouse cucumbers are tastier than they used to be. Those little scallions you saw a month ago are now baseball sized white onions sweet enough to eat like an apple. Green zucchini too. Grape tomatoes (as kids we called them ‘tommy toes’)
Assorted herbs and seedlings. larger pots of fragrant tasty LEMON BALM. Fresh peaches from the Candor area. Ice cream made from goat’s milk. Don’t know if the ‘bird house man’ will be back, but he had some wild designs. Several vendors with fragrant hand made soaps. Noticed some hand woven goods in one booth, right across from the fresh cut flowers. The duck eggs were on a table elsewhere in the booth. The fresh dug potatoes are a must! Several vendors are offering greenhouse tomatoes- They keep perfecting growing them and are better than ever. Fresh non commercial meats and whole milk.
The oak leaf hydrangeas are at their peak. Easy to grow and dependable beauty. Probably the last week for those too. Joan Thompson will be back with her home made ‘big cookies’ and breads, canned goods and preserves.
The market is every Thursday opening at 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.– EASY PARKING- Just a scamper from the displays.
Located on highway 64, just east of Courthouse circle, beside Kerr Drugs, in the Station complex parking lot. If you are traveling from the East, the market is just down the road (toward courthouse) on your right. You would have just passed Piggly Wiggly store on your left.
