Subject: Re: Mark’s positing in Chatham Chatlist #4916
Mark said in #4916: “We as a community need to really learn to focus on what important to us as a whole and what we want done with who ever we put in office. We need to realize no one, not one, is perfect. We have voted for change and pipe dreams just to realize an eloquent speaker does not a public servant make. For me its a persons track record, them being themselves good or bad consistently and their morals and integrity. It’s really hard to vote but it’s a duty and a privilege to vote so we all need to do just that if we expect anything to improve.â€
Thank you, Mark. I agree with you. I support Diana Hales, for the very reasons that you have stated above. I look for the person who knows the ins and outs of the issues that come before the county, who can and will stand firm on them, who will support us voting citizens whether she knows us individually or not, and will stand firm against the special interests particularly those who talk big but not truthfully.
Here is Diana’s application bio for County Commissioner: “Diana Hales, a resident of Hickory Mountain in the center of the county, retired in 2010 after a 20-year career in public service. She was a communications specialist who worked in the UNC-Chapel Hill Graduate School of Business, UNC-TV, and the Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, an agency of state government. She can hit the ground running as a county commissioner. She has attended and reported on county board meetings for more than three years. As a strong environmental advocate and a leader in the anti-fracking movement, she also has attended and reported on state and local meetings considering fracking policies. Diana has also been active in promoting economic development and arts funding in Siler City and the county.â€
Below is Sally Kost’s strong endorsement of Diana, which as you will read, come from a place of witnessing what Diana has done. I share it with all of you Chatlist readers partly because it’s what I have known about Diana and mainly because it’s what I’m convinced will make her a strong commissioner.
“For the past three years Diana has attended nearly all of the commissioner meetings. She knows the issues, and when elected will be effective from day one. Not only has she kept herself informed about the issues, but also she has provided a widely distributed monthly summary of the activities of the commissioners.
“She has also been outspoken on issues, particularly those that negatively impact the protection of our natural resources. And because fracking will have such a tremendous impact on the quality of life in Chatham, she has attended the state mining and energy commission meetings as they work to develop fracking regulations.
“It is important to have a commissioner who has been actively involved in her community, who knows the issues, and who is willing to stand up for the citizens, and not special interests.â€
Sincerely,
