Subject: some sad news…

hello, dear friends and neighbors…

today i come to you with sad news…our beloved scout passed away early this morning…his pasture mate misses him terribly and so do we!…

but, enough of being sad!…we will try to focus on how lucky we were to have him with us these many years and to celebrate his life…

scout was the most amazing pony ever!…nobody is sure how old he really was…the best guess is somewhere between 46 and 48 years old!…

our plan is to write a celebratory book about him and his generous spirit…many of you knew him or had him share his life with you and your children…

scout was a therapeutic riding horse for many years and maybe your child was the one that quieted instantly as soon as they were near him…or maybe your child was the one that got his muscles gently stretched by being placed on his sturdy back…so, maybe you have a scout story to tell?…

scout was also a mischievous soul…he loved to play!…if you hung your shirt on the fence, he would playfully nab it and drop it on the ground…wait for you to notice and pick it up…and then he would give you that beautiful pony grin, saying let’s do that again!…so, maybe you have a scout poem to write?…

every morning that he was in the lower pasture he would wait by the gate for the school bus to go by and nod his head up and down in greeting to the kids…it always took him a few weeks into the summer to realize that his job was over for the summer…but, as soon as school started again, he was back in his spot wishing the school kids a happy day…so, maybe you have a scout song in your heart?…

his pasture mate for many years, phoenix, is blind…he would take care of her and lead her around…always reassuring and loving…if she couldn’t find him, she would call to him and he would come to stand next to her…when she was frightened, his calm, quiet attitude would help her get past her fear…he was the most giving creature that we have ever known…maybe you have a scout memory too?

in his honor, we would like to collect your stories, poems and songs to include in his book…you can send them to

thank you, scout, for all your love…chatham county is a better place for having known you…

and thank you chatham county for loving him in return…he will be missed by many…
