Dear  Chathamite,

After a lifetime commitment to serve the citizens of Chatham County in education, law enforcement and public service, I have decided to run for Chatham County commissioner to support you and your interests.

I ask your support.

My grandmother was one of the founders for the eastern chapter of the NAACP. She instilled in me the desire to give back and “pay it forward.” Having lived in Chatham all my life, it would be a privilege and an honor to serve you as commissioner from the Third District.

I love all of our Chatham County citizens–our many talents, our love of the land, our work ethic, our service mentality.  I pledge to help each and every one of you meet the challenges we face in growth and economic development while maintaining the quality of our environment.

Further, I pledge to meet our challenges in education while continuing to strengthen a school system already among the best in the state.  In 2004 I was elected to the Chatham County School Board with the largest margin in that year’s elections, 68%.  I served for four years, two as Chair of the Board. My skills in crisis management, critical analysis & decision-making developed earlier in my career were augmented by the budgeting, consensus building, and collaboration required on the School Board.

I bring over 40 years of experience in public service as a police officer, firefighter, and emergency medical technician (EMT).  As an assistant fire marshal in 1997, I developed skills in reviewing plans and participating in the Review Process for developments such as Southern Village and Meadowmont. I learned so much working with concerned community members, developers, architects and project managers to iron out the many complexities of large scale development to the satisfaction of everyone.

I will bring that experience to bear on the challenges that face us in Chatham County near future.

I ask you for your support and your vote for the Third District Commissioner’s race in the May 6th Democratic Primary. I will represent you and support your best interests to the best of my ability.

Sincerely,

Norman Clark
