Advocacy Workshop on February 20 conducted by the NC Disabilities Rights Council

Date: Tue, 4 Feb 2014 08:43:22 -0800 (PST)
From: Holly Rickman
Subject: Advocacy Workshop conducted by the NC Disabilities Rights Council and sponsored by the Continuum of Care of Chatham County.

I cannot stress how important this workshop is. It not only will teach persons who are elderly or disabled how to self advocate but it will teach those who may have to make the hard choice of placing someone in a facility or advocating for them once they cannot advocate for themselves any longer.

We don’t like to think about these things and we think we will be OK when the time arrives.

I know I felt since I did advocacy for a career in our nonprofit that I would be a great champion for my younger sister when she entered a facility. Sadly, I learned after she lost her life last year that there was so much more that I could have done.

Help me, help you, to make sure your loved ones are well cared for, safe, and how to advocate when there are questions of personal rights, etc. I wish better for your families and want to help you make that happen.

When: February 20th from 9:30am-11:30am
Where: Central Carolina Community College – 400 Progress Boulevard, Siler City
Cost: FREE
