Noticed much slower power restoration since Duke took over Progress

In response to Chris Garris, you bet I’ve noticed much slower power restoration since Duke took over Progress.

Since moving here in 1999 I never had to use the generator I bought then.  The 2000 blizzard, multiple ice storms, hurricanes, etc and I never had an outage long enough to get out the generator and set it up.

The storms that came through on Saturday took my power out and Duke said 7 pm Saturday for restoration. That’s reasonable but about 6:00 on Saturday they called to change it to 7:00 pm Sunday. It actually came back around noon Sunday, just as I was about to start the generator (quick note, it started on the first pull after not having been used for over 10 years. Honda motors rule).

So Duke takes 24 hours to restore power after a line of storms that, while strong, is not that out of the ordinary around here. Progress never took more than 3-4 hours in my location.  At this rate we’ll be in the dark for a lot longer than we’re used to next time a hurricane or ice storm hits.

But at least the rates are going up.
