Dear Chatlist Community:

I noticed a post from Ms. Henry yesterday. And I agree with her that water is extremely important; however, the Town of Pittsboro has spent a considerable amount of time and capital since 2007 addressing the quality of Pittsboro’s drinking water and although it gets its raw water from the Haw River it currently produces some of the best water in the Triangle region.

As for fracking, the Town passed a resolution opposing fracking in March of 2012 and the Town is greatly concerned about the practice of fracking in our area and the potential adverse affect it may have on our drinking
water—whether it’s derived from wells, the river or Jordan Lake.

As for the fracking and mineral rights, the Town had negotiated a position from the principals of Chatham Park to oppose fracking on their land and the sale of mineral rights from their properties. This statement was entered into the public record by Mr. Smith at the meeting held at the Courthouse on November 25th, 2013. (Naturally without an approved rezoning, master plan and developer agreement with the Town of Pittsboro, this
situation is in limbo.)

Finally, I applaud your concern for our water and points you made on fracking and I hope I have clarified some of your concerns as well.

Happy Holidays,

Hon. Randolph S. Voller
