Dr. Dykers, your perspectives on this Chatlist are warmly welcome.  I enjoy your contributions.  You do not get ugly and always seem to think before you post.  Thank you.

I must respectfully disagree, however, with some of your comments regarding property rights.

Have you looked at the definition of our “unalieanable” rights and our “inalienable” rights?  The discussions and arguments spanned hundreds of years!  The definitions of our rights did not simply get pulled out of some orifice.  Natural, human, God-given rights, or rights bestowed by our Creator, were hotly debated all over Europe.  Our Creator has higher authority than the king or our U.S. government.  Even Deists believe in a Creator with higher authority than government.  The rights to private
property, self defense, and freedom of thought are granted by a higher authority than the government or neighbors in a county.

Private property IS a God-given right or, if you prefer, a natural right for ALL of human history.  Thou shalt not steal and Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods put it in plain words everyone can understand.  Just because you get the government to steal your neighbor’s property, does not make it right, lawful, just, etc.

The Declaration of the United States was penned and signed more than a decade before the . Constitution and our Bill of Rights were ratified.  The Declaration made it clear by what authority the American colonies could LAWFULLY separate from the King and constitute a new government.

When the government violates private property rights it is violating God’s laws.

I was not suggesting we retrofit existing buildings.  I was making a point to think about what it will be like when the government starts telling us what we MUST do to our homes/houses.  Individuals on this Chatlist seem to think they are immune to government mandates, regulations, etc. simply because they do not directly feel the imposition today.  Yet, these same individuals want to use the government to take rights from others in the name of . . .whatever.  There are government plans right now to monitor every mile we drive, where we live, what we eat, and whether we think correctly or whether we need “re-education”.

The case you referenced is Kelo vs. New London, Connecticut.  Government will ALWAYS attempt to take individual God-given rights.  It is what governments do. The U. S. constitution is unique in the world and history in that it spells out in clear language examples of our God-given individual rights and limitations on government power. Governments always, always, always, ALWAYS move toward tyranny over time.  ALWAYS.  It is up to you, and me, and all of us individuals to ensure we, and our children, are lawfully protected FROM government tyranny.
