Why not give our local residents an equal opportunity to compete for these jobs

Subject: Future Chatham Park Employment Prospects?

I also wonder what sort of employment will develop with the developers developing our previously undeveloped spot on this grand earth.. A few  years ago I was tasked with installing the doors on a new manufacturing plant not far from here. They were getting ready to manufacture and test “state of the art” jet engines……Yes, I know, I am droning on and
on. It was quite the experience to see the high tech and high security. It was no halfway effort by any means.

One day I asked management where they planned to get enough workers with the necessary skills to staff the facility. He said that 4 or 5 years ago, “they” went to appropriate local colleges and gave a presentation to the students, Anyone who followed the suggested curriculum, and did well, would have a VERY good chance of employment…….and we are talking nice salaries. How brilliant, I thought. Bringing this up in conversation one day, an associate told me his brother had entered that very program, completed his 4 year degree, and already had a job waiting for him just as soon as the buildings were ready. That was Proof of Life to me. They are now in full swing, and you would never know….

Perhaps this foresight is something that would help when Chatham Matters issues are being tossed about. I think we are all pretty sure that most new employment will require specialized skills. Why not give our local residents an equal opportunity to compete for these jobs by following this very same pattern when possible?

  1. Very good suggestions! How do we encourage that to happen?

Another question. Why is the “submit” button displayed several lines before the required security question? I was kicked back because I was following the order as presented. Hmm.
