Subject: Will new development bring jobs?
I don’t know, statistically, how much communities really benefit when there is new development.
I was quite surprised when “interviewing” employees at the various businesses at the 15-501/64 intersection when it was first developed that the employees were not local.
In fact one woman asked me how far away Pittsboro was and what kind of a town it was. Turns out she was commuting 45 minutes to get to her Chatham job..
Earlier I commented that the only jobs I could envision would be bulldozer operators, tree cutters and hole diggers. I stand by that.
New, so called “employers” do not hire local. They hire the cheapest employees they can find. This usually means someone who lives some distance away.
