Dear Friends,
Despite receiving hundreds of your signatures on our petition asking the Pittsboro Town Board to slow down and keep the Chatham Park review process open, bring in outside experts, and seek your input, our elected officials have yet to respond.
Even worse, a two-member subcommittee of the Board has been meeting in secret, illegally, in direct violation of the state Open Meetings Law. They have been communicating privately with Chatham Park developers, instead of responding to public concerns.
The subcommittee has raised some good questions, but they have left out many of your concerns, including your recommendations that they follow Triangle Land Conservancy’s environmental assessment and require affordable housing. They even proposed possibly meeting behind closed doors to receive the developer’s response before presenting their recommendations at a public meeting.
No decision has been made yet about the largest development ever proposed in the history of North Carolina.
Your voice at this critical time will make a difference.
Here’s what you can do NOW make Pittsboro Matter
– Tell the town board you want an open and transparent review process.
– Tell the town board you want them to carry out their land use plan recommendation, which commits the town to: “work with the developers of Chatham Park to develop an area plan with a public process and design charrette
that builds on the Southwestern Shore Assessment.â€
– Ask them to grant the three requests in the Pittsboro Matters petition you signed.
How can you send this message?
