The news of Julie Haarhuis’s death is very sad. It is depressing. My heart goes out to Joris for his loss.
The effects of irresponsibility, alcohol and recreational drugs are manifold and evident in every walk of life. I wish that there were an easy solution to the problem, such as passing a law. But that would be the equivalent to requiring the sun to rise in the west.
In one unattended moment, Ms. Cheek’s life is also altered forever.
My hope is that the habits of those effected by alcohol, drugs, depression and mental illness can be improved over time by proper treatment, caring communities, and faith. The costs are too high to sustain.
