Subject: Electrical power failure

On Oct. 6th, at one o’clock in the morning, my electrical power went off- (I have two accounts- next door to one another) There was no dimming of the lights, no warning. There was no rain, no storm, no winds. A very calm warm evening/morning.Β  I did not call and report the outage, as I was almost in bed already. I figured it would be on by morning.Β  I awoke at five a.m. and the power was still off.

I called the outage number and a recording told me there were no other reports of outage. Estimated time of repair would be 2 and half hours. I drove into town and came back home at eight o’clock and the power was still off. This time, the recorded message told me that wind and rain had downed lines and it would be repaired by eleven thirty. Eleven thirty, no power- I called again and the recording told me to check my breaker box- that that was probably the problem. It was not the problem.

Mind you, I can see all the power lines to my accounts and for at least a mile in several directions- and I am less than a mile from the big Progress Energy Center on Hyway 64 between Siler City and Pittsboro.

To shorten this story, the power was turned on again a one o’clock- It had been off for twelve hours. Not once in some 20 calls to the outage number did I speak with a human. No repair crew was working anywhere near my location.

Just think how wonderful the service is going to be when Progress Energy combines with Duke!

  1. that’s the worst being told it’s going to be fixed by a certain time multiple times and then having it not get done.
