Recognizing Children First Learning Center in Siler City as Chatham County’s first Partner in Prevention

I wanted to recognize Children First Learning Center on Sheffield Dr in Siler City as Chatham County’s first Partner in Prevention. This is a distinction given by Darkness to Light to youth serving organizations who “have committed the time and effort to educate themselves on how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.”

This is very exciting for Chatham County. We are looking forward to many other organizations and businesses following in the footsteps of Children First Learning Center to also become a Partner in Prevention. Please feel free to contact me for more information about how your organization, church, school, or business can become trained in Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children, and about becoming a Partner in Prevention.

As stated on the Darkness to Light website, “organizations that train their staff and volunteers create an environment that better protects children. Perpetrators are drawn to places where they can have easy access to children. An organization that emphasizes prevention through training and appropriate policies is an unwelcoming place for a perpetrator. Training increases staff and volunteer awareness and teaches them to recognize the signs that an opportunity exists for abuse to occur, and the signs that abuse has occurred. It is also critical that staff and volunteers know how to react if they recognize the signs or if a child discloses abuse.”

As a parent, I would look for this distinction when searching for youth serving organizations. If you are looking for a center to send your child (birth-NC PreK) to, Children First Learning Center should be high on the list!
